A hardy mountain-dwelling goat with remarkable climbing abilities

Conservation Status |  Near Threatened

The Siberian Ibex is a large wild goat species native to the mountainous regions of Central Asia. Known for its impressive horns and agile movements on rocky terrain, the Siberian Ibex is well-suited to life at high altitudes, where it can scale steep cliffs with ease to escape predators.

Habitat & Lifestyle

Siberian Ibexes inhabit rugged mountains and alpine meadows, typically found between 3,000 and 5,000 meters above sea level. They live in herds, especially during winter, to help navigate harsh conditions. Their diet consists of grasses, herbs, and shrubs, which they graze on in the warmer months and dig through snow to find during winter.

Area Found

In Pakistan, Siberian Ibexes are primarily found in the northern regions, such as the Karakoram Range, Gilgit-Baltistan, and the Hindu Kush mountains. These areas provide the high-altitude, rocky terrain necessary for their survival.
