Conservation Status | Low Risk
The Eurasian Eagle-Owl (Bubo bubo) is a magnificent and large owl species found across Europe, Asia, and parts of northern Pakistan. With its vivid orange eyes, mottled plumage, and iconic ear tufts, this owl is a powerful nocturnal predator with an important role in maintaining ecological balance.
Habitat & Lifestyle
Eurasian Eagle-Owls prefer mountainous regions, forests, rocky cliffs, and even open grasslands, typically at elevations from sea level up to 3,000 meters. They are strictly nocturnal hunters, using their exceptional vision and hearing to locate prey such as rodents, birds, rabbits, and other small mammals. These owls are mostly solitary, only pairing up during the breeding season and raising young in isolated rocky outcrops or forested areas.
Area Found
In Pakistan, Eurasian Eagle-Owls are primarily located in the northern mountainous regions and in forested areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Kashmir, where they can find suitable nesting sites and a stable food supply.
