A resilient animal, known for its adaptability across diverse landscapes
Conservation Status | Low Risk
The Wild Boar, locally known as Sooar, is a large and robust mammal found throughout various regions of Pakistan, particularly in agricultural areas and forests. Recognizable by its coarse, bristly fur and muscular build, the Wild Boar is both an efficient forager and a nocturnal feeder. While sometimes considered a pest due to its tendency to raid crops, the species plays a role in its ecosystem by aerating soil and dispersing seeds.
Habitat & Lifestyle
Wild Boars in Pakistan inhabit forests, grasslands, riverbanks, and agricultural fields. They are omnivorous and feed on a wide range of foods, including roots, tubers, fruits, small animals, and carrion. Boars are primarily nocturnal and live in groups called sounders, typically led by older females. Known for their strong sense of smell and keen hearing, they navigate their surroundings effectively, especially under low light.
Area Found
In Pakistan, Wild Boars are commonly found across Punjab, Sindh, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. They are often seen near rivers and agricultural lands where food sources are abundant, although they can survive in less fertile regions as well.
